Synopsis
Vanya and Sonia have spent their whole adult lives in the family farmhouse in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, first caring for aging parents and now, with the parents gone, mostly caring for nothing at all. Their glamorous sister Masha, the movie star whose paychecks have kept the place afloat, arrives unannounced with a boy toy named Spike, an invitation to a costume party, and news that could put the house on the market. Add a housekeeper who delivers prophecies nobody asked for and a starstruck young neighbor named Nina, and the quiet finally breaks for good. Durang borrowed the names and a little of the melancholy from Chekhov, then filled in the rest with laughs. Winner of the 2013 Tony Award for Best Play, this is a comedy about family, regret, and the stubborn possibility that it isn't too late after all.
